Creating The Life You Want In Your KITCHEN

The human heart is the source of all creative energy. In today’s fast-paced world, our lifestyles can often distract us from our essential core and purpose. Therefore, we all need a sacred space that we can come to everyday—not just a physical space we call home, but a special timeless place for reconnecting with our soul. This can take the form of either a multi-purpose area of the home or a dedicated room. It may even contain a shrine. Either way, it should be a place for contemplation and creativity.
Here are some suggestions to assist you in creating a sacred space that’s right for you.
Lighting is everything. The choice of lighting can set the tone for a room. Bright lighting is very welcoming or energizing. It is helpful in awakening the mind to the possibilities that lie ahead. Dim lighting helps bring forth a relaxed feel at the end of a tiring day. Allow lighting to set the mood for your space. You might want to consider the possibility of subtle colored lights in your space. Certain colors represent certain energies. For instance, lavender and purple symbolize spirituality, pink opens the heart, green brings in nature’s balance, and yellow stimulates health. Think about the times of day you will retreat to your sacred space the most. Will it be in the late evening after a busy day at work? Will you want to utilize this space for a brainstorming session about a project or idea when you’re feeling productive and your energy level is very high? I suggest installing good quality lighting which comes with dimming and brightening options. Colored bulbs for most lamps and light fixtures are relatively inexpensive, so the option to create this type of mood lighting is readily available.
Make it smell sweet. Aromatherapy uses plant materials, aromatic plant oils, and other aroma compounds for the purpose of healing one’s mood and bringing about a sense of well-being. The aromas of scented candles, incense, and potpourris create a special atmosphere. Various fragrances carry distinct vibrations. It is a good idea to experiment and determine which scents work best for you. The fragrances of certain herbs and flowers can bring in particularly healing energies. Every aromatherapy oil has different therapeutic uses and quality. For instance, Roman, Lavender, German Chamomile, and Patchouli are great for relieving anxiety, stress, and depression. Home aromatherapy kits are widely available in most specialty shops or online. They almost always include an essential oil diffuser or burner, a starter kit with a variety of scents for you to try, and instructions for usage. If you’re not ready to make the commitment to using an aromatherapy kit, scented candles and incense are great alternatives and come in a wide variety of scents. Remember to always practice safety when using candles or incense in your sacred space.

Bring nature indoors. From earthy to eclectic, whatever your style quotient may be, plant life and natural elements can help form a connection to the great outdoors. The more high-tech your life may be, the more you may need Mother Nature to provide a calming dose of organic repose. This is especially true if you live in an urban environment where becoming one with nature can sometimes pose a challenge due to the lack of flora and fauna around you. The colors and aromas of plants and flowers are not only soothing to the senses, but they are visually stimulating too. Waterfalls add scenery, sound, and a flowing energy. A patio or garden can serve as an excellent sacred space, but even if you prefer to create your space indoors, bringing in natural outdoor elements is easy and fun. Home gardening centers sell a variety of beautiful plants that are meant to thrive indoors. Mosaic tile accessories, clay pots, stone art pieces, and tabletop water sculptures are also some creative elements that can be incorporated. Let your imagination guide you.
Tune in and connect. Music is one of our most powerful gateways to connect to our spiritual nature. It can help us relate to our divine source and better comprehend what is unseen to us. Music helps us become more perceptive to the universe around us and to the other divine beings that inhabit it along with us. Meditational music may take many forms. Gregorian chants, Vedic mantras, devotional Bhajans, the great symphonies of Beethoven, traditional Gospel hymns, indigenous drums, rock and roll, or even creations of our own all qualify as meditational music because the experience they bring is a very personal, individualistic one. Music captivates the mind. Perhaps no other medium can transport us as immediately, on all levels of our existence, beyond the limits of our intellect and physical body to a higher, often blissful state. Ask yourself which genre of music may be a source of inspiration for you. What would you like to listen to in your sacred space? What is uplifting to your spirit? A small stereo player or iPod containing a collection of your favorite music to help you unwind and relax can be a nice addition to your sacred space. Do you play a musical instrument such as piano, sitar, harmonium, or African drum? Incorporating your instrument into your space is another way of personalizing it and making it your own.
If you would like, you can set up an altar with items that are relevant to the faith you choose to practice in order to bring the energy of spirituality into your space. Each object can be placed with an intention for going deep within your heart and soul. There is no right or wrong way to do it. It’s all about what inspires your soul. Other possible ways to connect with the divine in your sacred space are to perform yoga, practice deep breathing, and create a positive vision for your life. You may find it helpful to create a vision board incorporating all the aspects of your life that you want to improve or enhance and the goals and dreams you want to achieve. Framing your creation and placing it in your sacred space will guarantee that you will see it every day when you relish your special time there. As you refocus on your inner life, you’ll find yourself calmer, clearer, happier and more inspired to follow your heart.
